Hard Sci-Fi Immersive Education Inspires Teenagers to Explore the Future

On September 19, 2023, the 5th World Conference on Public Science Literacy opened at Shougang Park in Beijing. The event, co-hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Beijing Municipal Government, focused on integrating science and art. On the 20th, experts from around the world gathered to explore innovative approaches to science communication.

During the forum, Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Guan Xiaohong shared insights into the intersection of music and science, while Professor Fei Jun of the Central Academy of Fine Arts discussed the digital preservation of cultural heritage. Alexander Brandt, chief designer of the Shanghai Planetarium, shared his team's decade-long journey in creating the world’s largest planetarium. His latest immersive sci-fi experience, AI's Dream, explores the boundaries of science, sci-fi, and philosophy, showing how sci-fi shapes reality.

Brandt introduced a new model for science communication—Hard Sci-Fi Immersive Education, emphasizing that "the best education is about creating the most exciting day of our lives." He believes that immersive experiences can inspire students to engage with technology and scientific challenges, transforming learning into an exciting journey.

Brandt’s new sci-fi IP, AI's Dream, will debut this fall at the Shanghai Tower. It explores the near-future relationship between humans and AI, presenting a crisis triggered by AI, and is set to inspire young audiences with its forward-thinking narrative and cutting-edge technology. Brandt views this immersive sci-fi model as the future of science education, merging entertainment with learning to shape the future of human civilization.
